Iceland is more popular than ever before!

The days are getting longer and so the new season is on the horizon. Following a great salmon season in 2015, we are hopeful of a great 2016 season as well. One thing that is probably a certainty is that mws salmon will be plentiful, as huge grilse runs one year usually spell big runs of larger salmon the next, specialy in north and east rivers which have normaly stock of msw fish.  There is great optimism, we feel it markedly in the sales. Already Hrútafjarðará is sold out. Breiðdalsá and Jökla are in more demand than ever, although they both still have few prime time openings for those who have yet to book their fishing trips. For those who might be interested it is valid to remind you that this year we will see direct flights from Gatwick airport to Egilsstaðir on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Egilsstaðir is very close to both rivers, a half hours drive to Jökla and an hours drive to Breiðdalsá.

Hrútafjarðará and Jökla registered record seasons, Hrúta finished with 850 salmon to three daily rods, while Jökla had its finest season ever with a haul of 815 salmon. Breiðdalsá did very well, all things considered, finishing with around 400 salmon and it must be remembered that the season on the river has been shortened and daily rods often fewer.

On the trout front, Minnivallalækur had its best season for a decade with a lot of 5 to 6 pound brown trout falling for dry flies. Sea char and brown trout fishing on the Jökla and Breiðdalsá river systems was also very prolific except some days when flood and high wader was a problem.

So, we still have various options for those who are yet to book their trips and it would be wise to decide as soon as possible, as the sales have never been so fast and furious.
